Original and VERY RARE, EPIC bed, by the master Achille Castiglioni in 1984. Red lacquered wooden slats, Deep blue painted metal feet, and a headboard and footboard Canvas upholstered in thick fabric in Cream.

Suitable for a 200 x 180 cm mattress.

In very good vintage condition with normal signs of wear for age.

The bed system was developed in collaboration with Professor Zerbi, a renowned orthopedic surgeon with whom Castiglioni had previously worked on the development of a hospital bed. The challenge was to design an innovative system that would allow for various adjustments without compromising the structure. The project aims to maximize ventilation of the bed frame system and minimize the transverse hammock effect. For this reason, thinner longitudinal slats and advanced composite materials were chosen. The structural calculations for these elements and the prototype were performed at the CSI laboratories of Montedison in Milan. The frame consists of a series of fiberglass rods with a rectangular cross-section and soft, transparent PVC end caps, arranged along the entire length of the structure. Since there is no fixed frame, the length and number of rods can be varied as desired, allowing for great flexibility in dimensions. The entire assembly is connected by a flexible U-shaped frame, designed to tension the fabric used for the head and footrests.
